Building Our Social Skills Pillar

Dear Parents,

As part of our Strategic Plan for the school year 2012/2013, we are bringing greater focus on our third pillar – Social Skills. As part of this focus, we will be implementing the Social Emotional Learning programme run by Dr Ang Kai Ling. As described on Dr Ang’s website, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills to:

  1. recognize and manage their emotions (Self-Control),
  2. set and achieve positive goals (Self-Management),
  3. demonstrate caring and concern for others (Social Awareness),
  4. establish and maintain positive relationships (Relationship Skills), and
  5. make responsible decisions and handle interpersonal situations effectively (Responsible Decision Making).

This SEL programme, You Can Do It! Education, uniquely encompasses thought life in the curriculum – “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” (Proverbs 4:23, Good News Translation)

In preparation to launch this programme, we will be hosting a special workshop for parents, conducted by Dr Ang, on Saturday, 12th January, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will be a fee of $10 per parent participating in this workshop. All parents are encouraged to attend so that you will fully understand how to partner with us in this learning journey of your children.

Please note that the school will implement this programme from February onward. A monthly fee will be charged for this – we are still negotiating to keep this affordable for you.

To assist us in our planning, please reply to the school office:

to confirm your attendance, by Friday, 21st December, 2012.

In His joy,

Ps. Rajaram S.N. Samy (Raj)
Principal / Senior Administrator
