I am Mrs Jan Boey, founder of the school, and I would like to share with you our journey as a school. Back to how it all began…
In 1999, the Lord spoke through a prophet that I am called to be like Mary, a handmaiden. Shortly after the prophecy, the Holy Spirit led me to read Luke chapters 1 and 2, revealing His specific call to birth a school using the School of Tomorrow curriculum (also known as Accelerated Christian Education, or ACE), which trains children in the Word of God as they learn. This curriculum is a God-inspired, biblically based, individualized educational curriculum for children from Preschool to High School. I held fast to His rhema word and obeyed, believing that all things are possible with God and be it unto me according to His Word.
Starting a school in Singapore, which has a well-known public education system, is like driving a car towards oncoming traffic! Much time was spent praying and waiting on the Lord for instructions in pioneering a new path where parents and students will need faith to walk through.
The Lord gave us His vision for the school as “Transformed Lives” and He affirmed His mission for us in Luke 1:17, “To go in the spirit and power of Elijah, turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, the disobedient to the wisdom of the wise, to prepare a people ready for the Lord.” After completing the training with the representative of ACE in Singapore, and training and orientation at the ACE Headquarters in US (Dallas, Lewisville), we started as an Agency in the year 2000. The Lord gave us the name of the Agency: Victory Life Christian Training Agency.
We began at our home with just one student: my youngest daughter, who was 10 years old. More students came by the leading of the Lord, and soon we had to look for bigger premises. He led us to a 3-storey bungalow at Jalan Berjaya and the student number more than doubled. By the end of the 2-year lease, the Lord prepared a former school compound at Jalan Lateh for our growing cohort. Looking back at the days of small beginnings, and witnessing God’s faithfulness and provisions, we dare to dream that we will be an international school having bigger premises for more children.
The Lord is our Strength and He has opened doors that no man can shut. When we applied for registration with the Ministry of Education, the Head of Private Schools understood that we are facilitators not teachers. Hence we were not required to register with the MOE, and a letter to confirm that we continue the business was given to us.
In 2008, the MOE gave a new directive for all private schools to be registered with the CPE (Council for Private Education – now the Committee for Private Education, under SkillsFuture Singapore, since October 2016). On 20 April, 2008, we registered the Agency as Victory Life Christian School Ltd (a non-profit organization) with the approval of MOE.
Glory to God, on 15 June, 2012, the CPE registered our school as a Private Education Institution. As it is written in the Word of God: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
To date, students who graduated with our American High School Diploma have gained entry into universities in Singapore: NTU and SMU; in the United States of America, Canada and Australia. Most of our students who chose to study abroad were awarded good scholarships. Our first VLCS graduate was awarded the Bishop’s scholarship in Kansas Southwestern University in US. He completed his tertiary in 3½ years and is now pursuing a masters degree in Theology. Our second graduate, my daughter, received the President’s Scholarship from Trinity Western University in Canada. She graduated with greater distinction after 4 years majoring in International Studies. In her third year, she was accepted in the Best semester program in Uganda. She is now volunteering in Kenya and Uganda. The Ministry of Defence has also granted our boys deferment from National Service till they complete their studies for the Diploma. We are thankful for prayerful parents who put their expectations in God, and we greatly delight in God’s bountiful favour on our students.
The Lord promised that He will equip us to fulfil the ministry. May we inquire of Him daily and ask for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, and a burning desire for wisdom and strength to educate, empower and encourage all staff, parents and students.
We are a school training children in the Word of God for character building and preparing students for life. We are called to prepare a people ready for the Lord for good works! Victory Life Christian School exists for the glory of God!
